Flip Video & Secret Wars Collaboration
Flip video joins forces with art battlers Secret Wars...
Last Friday bore witness to Secret Wars, a live art battle playing out inside a packed East London venue.
Launched in 2006 and promoted by word of mouth, Secret Wars started out as a way for artists to show the public what they can do, evolving now into a knockout contest. After the London leg, the competition will head to Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Dresden, Milan and Barcelona.
It's a pretty simple format that pitches two opposing teams from different cities head to head, on two large white canvases. Artists have 90 minutes to work their magic marker and two guest judges use a three point system, a decibel meter and the crowd to decide a victor.
For those who haven't seen one before, Flip are the cute little pocket cameras loved, used (and featured) by Contagious, bloggers, moms and kids the world over. Brought by networking behemoth Cisco for $590m early in 2009, the company boast a 20% share of the camcorder market.
The company have played it cool at Secret Wars, keeping its involvement simple and branding tucked away. Consumer marketing communications manager Anil Takodra explains: 'Each team has a Flip Video pocket camcorder - so they can upload and share their key pieces of authentic work with fans. Perfect to shoot, connect and share high quality footage - the Flips have been a big hit with the Secret Wars teams because they deliver the perfect combination of sleek design, ease of use, and great video quality.'
