Time Scanner by Kenichi Okada

“Time Scanner” is a great interactive video installation by Kenichi Okada that I discovered a while back. It uses real-time video footage, stretching and contorting it to create a continuous image stream that is directly affected by the participants movements.

The installation is created using the MaxMsp/Jitter software and uses a one pixel width plain to generate the elongated imagery. The core idea is pretty simple but super effective, he explains,
“People can move and dance in front of the display and when they cross the virtual intersection point, unique still images are created…”
